Who is George Powell?
George Powell is the Founder and CEO of Easy Beauty, a native platform for iOS and Android. Easy Beauty allows independent beauty professionals 24/7 access to products and brands from the convenience of their phones.
Making Beauty Easier
George is disrupting the $30B beauty industry by implementing a mobile app that allows professionals to instantly order supplies and have them delivered as early as the next business day. Normally, stylists and salon managers rely on door-to-door representatives to deliver specific products. With Easy Beauty, these professionals now have an all-in-one channel to service their clients’ needs at the touch of a button.
Turning Tech into Beauty
George grew up in a strict household where he learned that dedication and sacrifice are the roadmaps to success. This hard-working mentality was drilled into him at an early age and is still what he lives by today. Having always been interested in the beauty industry, George considered becoming a barber himself before pursuing his love of technology. During his pursuit, he saved several corporations, including Humana Vitality, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Walgreens, millions of dollars by creating solutions that helped reduce wasteful processes. After that, he returned to his original passion.
Seeing the struggles of professionals in the beauty industry, George began to wonder what he could do to help make their lives easier. He spent years consulting with stylists and salon managers and used his background in technology to develop Easy Beauty. This user-friendly app allows for automated business functions, such as product ordering, with plans to launch even more features in the future. George believes most entrepreneurs have it in their DNA to make life easier, so he is choosing to focus on the industry he admires most.
Growing His Startup
In 2015 George graduated from The Founder Institute, a program which helps new founders obtain the funding they need to build their startups. He is excited to join other entrepreneurs in getting their products into the market, an opportunity he states most African Americans are not usually allotted. According to George, African American startups only receive 0.01% of funding, but he is up for the challenge of changing the narrative by bootstrapping. Currently, George is overcoming the obstacles of raising his first pre-seed round, but he is confident that once Easy Beauty is up and running it will dominate the beauty industry.
